We may identify four stages in a crisis incident; react, adjust, adapt and manage. As the incident evolves, so must our behavior as we seek to remain in the management phase of operation. This has been our approach at the ICISF as we do our best to forecast what is yet to come and how best to manage amid this uncertainty.
In the last issue of LifeNet, I reported how we made rapid adjustments while developing a longer-term plan. We created and continue to provide many COVID-19 resources available on a special page of our website (www.icisf.org/covid19-resources). We began the process to convert our time-tested core programs to online delivery and explored, in detail, how to enable our faculty and instructors to teach via remote learning systems.
As this issue of LifeNet reaches you, we have empowered the ICISF Faculty and Approved Instructors to teach using live remote learning methods. This may not work for every in-person program we offer, although we will continue to explore, evolve and manage. The ICISF programs will be better, offering more options to receive training and support anywhere in the world.
We know this change must happen because CISM is needed perhaps more than ever before. Greek philosopher Plato said “Necessity is the mother of invention. A need or problem encourages creative efforts to meet the need or solve the problem.”
The ICISF has reinvented, not by changing the lesson, instead by changing the method of delivery. Check our website for details, look for our emails (subscribe to our mailing list) and follow us on social media.
